Shooting the milky way in the southern US is a challenge. Not from just light pollution but also relative humidity can be awful. During this time of the year optimal nights are far and few between. I tend to keep an eye on dew points for the week. Try to shoot on nights when relative humidity is around 50% and dew points are in the 50f range. This shot was done on a june night with the dew points in the 70's and RH in the 80% range. I could almost cut the air with a knife it was so thick.
